Alex et Elodie is a school desk like so many knew in the 60s. A solid, comfortable desk for your little ones' homework. All with a CALATHÉA makeover for an original, sparkling desk.
To get there:
- Complete stripping and sanding of the furniture,
- An anti-rust treatment was applied to the steel,
- Black curving of the legs and schoolbag hooks,
- Recasting the veneered plywood shelf with a black wood veneer (sanding, priming and waxing the shelf).
- Fine sanding 120/180/250 grain of all the oak,
- Star marquetry on the backrests.
- Finishing with Libéron dark bison black wax to bring out the marks of time.
Marquetry
Marquetry is a technique that requires a lot of practice. No laser cutting is used in the workshop! Everything is done by hand, in the traditional way of cabinet-making.
These little stars have been cut out with a scroll saw, then fixed to scotch tape so that they can be traced and sculpted in their future location.
A wood chisel is then used to carve out their positions.
